DNA for families

A full chapter written to you

Every profile carries a chapter addressed to the parent, in Arabic and in English: what you see in your child, what it actually means, and what to say tonight.

Moments you will recognise

These are examples from chapters that already exist. Your child's profile carries their moments, not these.

Archetype — The Pattern Seeker

  1. 1

    What you see

They sit in front of their homework for ten minutes without writing a word.

  2. 2

    What it means

This is not avoidance. They need to see the whole picture before they can start on the details, and that building happens in their head before it reaches the page.

  3. 3

    What you do

Give them a few minutes before stepping in. If it runs long, ask about the picture and not the step: “what is the big idea in this question?”

Strategy and mindset — The Strategic Planner, The Cautious Learner

  1. 1

    What you see

They spend an hour ordering and colour-coding their to-do list, then go to bed without doing a single item on it.

  2. 2

    What it means

Planning feels like work and carries no risk of being wrong. As long as they are still planning, they have not failed yet. The list is a shield, not procrastination.

  3. 3

    What you do

Do not criticise the list. Sit with them for five minutes on the first item only: “the list is good — let us do just the first item now.”

Mindset — The “Coasting” Learner

  1. 1

    What you see

They say “this is easy, I know it” about a lesson you can see them struggling with.

  2. 2

    What it means

The sentence is a mask. They believe being smart means finding things easy, so needing effort proves to them that they are not smart — and they shut the subject down before they are found out.

  3. 3

    What you do

Do not argue with the sentence. Make the question slightly easier and watch whether they re-engage. Praise the effort and not the intelligence: “I noticed you tried three ways before you got there.”

What is in the parent's chapter

The chapter exists in all 128 profiles, in Arabic and in English, without exception.

Tips for parents

  • Your child's inner world in their own words, what they need and cannot ask for, sentences ready for the daily conversation, and the misreading this particular profile invites — such as taking avoidance for laziness when it is fear.

And what not to do with it

  • Do not hand it to your child as a label. “You are a Detail Guardian” closes the conversation; “I noticed you catch things other people miss” opens it.
  • Do not compare one child's profile with their sibling's. The two are not scores, and neither one is the better one.
  • It is not an excuse and not a diagnosis. It does not release your child from work, and it is not to be read as a medical condition.

The profile

  • The profile describes where your child is now, not what they will be. The mindset layer especially changes, and that is the point of it.
